…about me, that is.
Over the last couple of years, I’ve been cultivating another career path for myself as a voice actor — and I haven’t been this excited since I first pursued animation over 20 years ago.
Back then, I was a partner in a small graphic design studio in Chicago when a friend asked if I wanted to help make an animated short film. We jumped in with no idea what we were doing, learned fast, and that experience completely changed my life. After years of obsessive learning, freelance work, and studio projects, I now supervise animation teams on award-nominated films — and still love it.
What fewer people know is that before animation, my first passions were theater and music. I spent years performing in Chicago-area theater productions, as well as fronting bands, writing songs, recording albums, and touring the country in shitty vans for no money. It taught me so much about performance, storytelling, character, and emotion — skills that naturally fed into animation.
Now those paths are intersecting again through voice acting for animation and games. It combines everything I love: performance, character work, storytelling, and years spent in recording studios. I’m energized in a way I haven’t felt in a long time.
Does that mean I’ll be putting animation aside? No, not at all. This is something I’m still really just getting started at.
